Dev Deepawali is a important festival celebrated every year at the holy palace Varanasi. Dev Deepawali, which is also known as Dev Diwali, it is celebrated to blaze the victory of Lord Shiva over demon Tripurasur (त्रिपुरासुर). Hence Dev Deepawali festuval is also known as Tripurotsav or Tripurari Purnima which is celebrated on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima.
On Dev Diwali , devotees take a holy dive in the Ganges on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima and light diyas in the evening. When the dusk sets, the stairs of all the Ghats on the riverfront of the Ganges are lighten up with millions of diyas. On this day not only the Ghats of Ganges but also all temples of Varanasi are lighten up with millions of Diya(s).
